Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan discuss ways to implement major joint projects

Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Bakyt Torobaev held talks with the Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan Laziz Kudratov. The Uzbek minister also held talks with the Minister of Economy and Commerce of Kyrgyzstan Daniyar Amangeldiyev. The meetings of government officials of the two countries took place within the framework of the visit of the government delegation of Uzbekistan to Bishkek, UzA reports.

On January 26 - 27 of this year, the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Kyrgyzstan is expected. He is expected to hold talks with President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov and othe high officials. The arrival of the Government delegation from Uzbekistan to Bishkek was connected with the preparation of the state visit of President Mirziyoyev.

During the negotiations of the Government delegations, work was considered to prepare for a business forum with the participation of representatives of the business circles of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. The parties synchronized the list of investment agreements and trade contracts planned to be signed during the forum. The chemical and textile industries, mechanical engineering, the production of pharmaceuticals, leather and footwear products, building materials, electrical engineering, as well as energy, agriculture, transport, logistics and tourism have been designated as priority areas for cooperation.

The possibilities of implementing major joint projects to organize the production of commercial vehicles and cars, the construction and expansion of spinning and textile enterprises, and the production of building materials were discussed.

The parties also agreed on the joint implementation of investment projects in the field of agriculture, meaning the creation of intensive orchards and high-tech greenhouses in the two countries. For this purpose, the locations of joint projects will be determined within a week, as well as initiators through private enterprises of both parties.

Separately, the preparation of the project for the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway was considered, an agreement was reached on signing a step-by-step road map indicating specific deadlines for the implementation of each stage of the project.

The prospects for the implementation of joint projects in the energy sector, in particular the construction of the Kambarata HPP-1, were discussed. An agreement was reached to speed up the adoption of the necessary documents and the development of technical and economic documentation.

According to the statistics of Uzbekistan, over the past 6 years, trade between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan has increased 8 times, reaching $1.3 billion in 2022. The heads of the two states instructed their governments to double the volume of trade.
