Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov delivered a speech at the 25th meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Tianjin. The summit was attended by leaders of member states, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as the heads of Central Asian states and other SCO members, according to the press service of the President of Kyrgyzstan.
Japarov emphasized that the SCO has established itself as an authoritative multilateral organization, playing a key role in maintaining peace and trust among nations. He highlighted the significance of recently signed agreements on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border and the junction point of the borders of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan as examples of constructive cooperation.
The President announced that Kyrgyzstan is beginning its fourth chairmanship of the SCO under the motto: “25 Years of the SCO: Together for Sustainable Peace, Development, and Prosperity.” He outlined key priorities:
-
strengthening security and combating terrorism, extremism, and transnational crime, including through the establishment of an Anti-Organized Crime Center in Bishkek;
-
expanding economic cooperation, promoting the creation of an SCO Development Bank and Fund, and developing transport corridors;
-
advancing digitalization, including a Youth Digital Forum and joint transformation projects;
-
expanding the environmental agenda through “green” projects to counter climate change.
Special attention will also be given to cultural and humanitarian ties. Cholpon-Ata on Lake Issyk-Kul has been declared the cultural capital of the SCO during Kyrgyzstan’s chairmanship, where major international events, including the anniversary Issyk-Kul Forum, will take place. Kyrgyzstan also invited SCO members to participate in the World Nomad Games in 2026.
President Japarov concluded his remarks by inviting the heads of SCO member states to the next summit, which will be held in Bishkek.
