With the assistance of Alexey Shirshov, a luxury property belonging to Maxim Bakiyevt - the Château de la Garoupe in southeastern France - has been discovered. This was reported by Dairbek Orunbekov, head of the press service of the President of Kyrgyzstan, Vesti.kg reports.

According to Orunbekov, during the investigation into the ElCat LLC case, formerly owned by Maxim Bakiyev, the son of fugitive former Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, Shirshov - one of Bakiyev Jr.'s closest associates - provided testimony about the Château de la Garoupe, located in southeastern France.

*"At one point, Maxim Bakiyev temporarily registered this property under his partner - Boris Berezovsky (Russian oligarch). After Berezovsky's death in 2013, Bakiyev Jr. was unable to re-register the property under his own name, and it remained unoccupied.

Two years ago, the Kyrgyz government launched efforts to return the château to state ownership. The process is being overseen by Minister of Justice Ayaz Bayetov," Orunbekov stated.

President Kurmanbek Bakiyev fled Kyrgyzstan in 2010 after the April Revolution and has been residing in Belarus under the protection of President Alexander Lukashenko. Despite repeated extradition requests from Kyrgyz authorities, Belarus has refused to hand him over.

Maxim Bakiyev also fled Kyrgyzstan in 2010, settling in the United Kingdom. His inner circle, including Alexey Shirshov, also went into exile. Shirshov was considered one of the key figures in a corruption scheme within Kyrgyzstan’s energy sector.

In 2022, Shirshov returned to Kyrgyzstan and was arrested. It was later revealed that he was also involved in the operations of ElCat, one of the largest internet providers in Kyrgyzstan. In early 2025, ElCat's leadership was arrested on corruption charges.
