Kyrgyzstan increased imports of cars significantly, and money transfers to country grows

Since of the beginning of 2023, Kyrgyzstan imported nearly 85,000 cars valued at 98.5 billion soms, which is just over $1.1 billion, says a bulletin from the National Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan on foreign and mutual trade for the first seven months of the current year, Akchabar.kg reports.

Compared to the same period in 2022, car imports increased by almost four times. According to the data from the National Statistical Committee, the majority of cars were imported from South Korea, totaling 28,961 units.

From China, Kyrgyzstan imported 14,910 automobiles for a total of 21.5 billion soms during the first seven months of 2023. The top three countries for importing passenger cars into Kyrgyzstan are rounded out by the United States. From January to July of the current year, 12,754 cars were imported from the USA, amounting to 10.2 billion soms.

In addition to these three countries, Kyrgyzstan frequently imports cars from Japan, Germany, and Georgia.

Mean while it was previously reported that over three-quarters of the cars imported into Kyrgyzstan are resold to other countries, primarily to Russia.

During the same period from January to July of the 2023, the inflow of funds through transfer systems into Kyrgyzstan amounted to $1.1 billion. During the same time, Kyrgyz citizens transferred nearly $286 million to other countries. These figures were provided by the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan.

Most of the money transfers are directed to Russia, with a transfer volume of $1.231 billion. Of this amount, more than $1 billion represents inflows, while the outflow exceeded $228 million.

During the same period, almost $87 million was transferred from other foreign countries. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan transferred more than $54.3 million to these countries.
