Kyrgyzstan has recorded an increase in revenue from the tax on electronic services, widely known as the "Google tax." According to Akchabar.kg, in the first 11 months of 2024, foreign companies paid 705.6 million soms ($8.15 million) in VAT on electronic services to the state budget.
This figure is 267.9 million soms (or 1.6 times) higher than the same period in 2023, when tax collections amounted to 437.6 million soms.
The tax on electronic services was introduced in Kyrgyzstan in 2022. According to the State Tax Service, more than 40 foreign companies currently pay this tax, including tech giants like Google.
For comparison, neighboring Kazakhstan introduced a similar tax in 2022. In 2024, Kazakhstan collected 34.9 billion tenge (approximately $66.4 million) from this tax.
