Kyrgyzstan increases income from foreign tourism by 5 times in year

Revenues of the tourism industry of Kyrgyzstan from the reception of foreign tourists have grown almost five times over the year. A noticeable growth in the sector is also observed in comparison with the “pre-corona crisis” indicators, the EnergyProm.kz portal reports.

According to the official data of Kyrgyzstan, the gross value added in the sector for 2022 amounted to 35.4 billion soms. This is 36% more in money terms than in 2021 and also 12.1% more than in 2019. The share of the industry’s GVA in GDP has not yet recovered to “pre-corona crisis” indicators (5%–5.1%), but significantly exceeded the level of 2021 (3.6%), reaching 3.9%.

The retail trade turnover in the tourism sector of Kyrgyzstan in 2022 amounted to 33.8 billion soms, which is 64.7% more than a year earlier, and 46.4% more than in 2019.

As for market services to the population in the sector, the volume of travel agency services reached 2.2 billion soms - plus 65.3% for the year and plus 21.9% by 2019; health resort services amounted to 1.1 billion soms - plus 54% for the year and plus 54.5% by 2019, and accommodation services reached 4 billion soms - immediately 2.8 times more than a year earlier, and 16.9% more than in 2019 year.

The main flow of foreign tourists visit the Issyk-Kul region both in the summer for recreation and in winter for skiing in the mountains.
