Kyrgyzstan is negotiating with the Russian company Gazprom for the supply of more than 0.5 billion cubic meters of gas for future periods, said Deputy Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan Talaibek Baigaziev on the sidelines of the Atomexpo-2024 International Forum.

The forum takes place in the Russian city of Sochi.

"On March 27-28, a representative of Gazprom will visit, and we will consider gas supplies for future years, which will amount to half a billion cubic meters and above," Baygaziev said.

Kyrgyzstan previously imported around 300-340 million cubic meters of gas per year and plans to increase this volume to 1 billion cubic meters in the near future, Baygaziev added. He clarified that discussions regarding the possible transit of Russian gas through Kyrgyzstan to China are not being held.

The parties are also considering the construction of steam-gas or gas generation facilities in Kyrgyzstan, Baygaziev added.

In November 2023, Gazprom and Kyrgyzstan signed a memorandum of partnership in the development of the gas industry in the republic, as well as announced the exploration of cooperation in the electricity sector.

Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller previously stated that by November 1, 2025, the holding company plans to begin supplying significantly larger volumes of gas to the countries of Central Asia via the Central Asia-Center gas pipeline, and by mid-2024, to conclude medium-term fifteen-year contracts with Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.

OOO "Gazprom Kyrgyzstan" is a wholly-owned subsidiary of PJSC "Gazprom" and is the exclusive importer of natural gas into the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as the owner of the gas transmission and distribution system of the republic.
