Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan held the first round of negotiations on the draft intergovernmental agreement (IGA) for the implementation of the Kambar-Ata-1 hydroelectric power plant (HPP), which will be the largest energy facility in the region. This was reported by The Caspian Post, citing information from the relevant ministries of the three countries.

According to the Kyrgyz Ministry of Energy, high-ranking delegations were led by Deputy Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan Altynbek Rysbekov, Vice Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Sungat Yesimkhanov, and Deputy Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Umid Mamadaminov, Economist.kg reports.

Representatives of the relevant ministries and agencies of the parties also participated in the negotiations, demonstrating a comprehensive and coordinated approach to the project's implementation.

The World Bank, a strategic partner and considered one of the key creditors for the project, was given a key role in the negotiations.

The future Kambar-Ata-1 HPP on the Naryn River is designed to generate 1,880 MW of electricity. The launch of such a facility will help address the electricity shortage in Central Asia and establish joint water resource management.

Ministry representatives are currently working out the legal and organizational details of joint management of the future plant. Agreeing on the terms is necessary to attract major investment and begin active construction. Meeting participants emphasized that the Kambar-Ata-1 HPP will become the foundation for a stable energy supply to the region for decades to come.
