Kyrgyzstan is launching a major healthcare project: the National Investment Agency and 21st Century Biomedicine signed a memorandum on the construction of a $1 billion pharmaceutical industrial park, 24.kg reported.
The full-cycle complex will occupy 20 hectares and will be built in three stages over six years. It will include an R&D center, production of chemicals and medical devices according to EAEU GMP standards, and a business incubator.
MedPharm Consulting LLC will organize the project. The project will create up to 3,000 direct and over 10,000 indirect jobs.
Kyrgyzstan's pharmaceutical market has historically been vulnerable due to its critical dependence on imports: the country meets only 4% of its medication needs domestically.
The launch of the pharmaceutical park will increase self-sufficiency to 25-30%, which will be a significant step toward strengthening national food and biological security. Furthermore, compliance with EAEU GMP standards opens up long-term export potential for Kyrgyzstan in the markets of Central Asia and the Eurasian Economic Union.
