Kyrgyzstan proposes EU to create transport platform for Central Asia

Kyrgyzstan proposed to create a permanent platform in the format of the European Union - Central Asia. It is assumed that the control over the platform will be carried out by the heads of transport departments of the participants in the CA-EU format. Such a proposal was voiced by President Sadyr Japarov at the summit "Central Asia - European Union", which took place in Cholpon-Ata on the shore of Lake Issyk-Kul, the press service of the President of Kyrgyzstan reported.

Central Asia has great potential for the renaissance of the Great Silk Road, which will allow it to become a hub connecting Europe and Asia. To implement the initiative on transport links, the heads of government and the Vice President of the European Commission at the 2nd Economic Forum in Almaty agreed on a roadmap to attract investment for the development of transport infrastructure. European public and private partners will be involved in this project, Zhaparov said justifying his proposal.

“In order to effectively promote this area of cooperation, I am making a proposal to create a permanent platform for interaction in the format of the European Union - Central Asia at the level of heads of transport structures,” said President Zhaparov.

The summit "Central Asia - European Union" was held on June 2, 2023 in Cholpon-Ata with the participation of four Presidents of the countries of the region and the Deputy Head of the Government of Turkmenistan on the one hand and Charles Michel on the part of the European Union.
