Issues of Kyrgyz-Chinese cooperation, including the opening of a new Bedel checkpoint on the state border of the two countries in the Issyk-Kul region and the construction of the Barskoon-Uchturfan-Aksu highway, were discussed at a meeting of Deputy Head of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Bakyt Torobayev with the Chinese delegation headed by Dan Xiaohong, First Deputy Director of the State Office for Checkpoint Management, Akchabar reports.

The official opening of the Bedel checkpoint is planned for September 2024 with temporary simplified conditions. The construction of the bridge at the checkpoint has already been completed, and the full infrastructure will be developed bilaterally in the coming years.

In addition, the possibilities of improving the operation of the existing Irkestam and Torugart checkpoints between the two countries were discussed. The "Irkeshtam" checkpoint is located on the border with China in the Osh region, and the "Torugart" checkpoint is located in the Naryn region. The new Bedel checkpoint is located in the Issyk-Kul region. It is located closer to the capital of XUAR of China, Urumqi, and Aksu, the capital of the Kyrgyz region as part of XUAR.

The parties expressed confidence that the opening of the new Bedel checkpoint will be an important transport and logistics corridor between China and Central Asia, which will help to increase the volume of freight and passenger traffic, as well as strengthen trade.
