The construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway is currently estimated at $6 bln, Kyrgyz Cabinet Ministers head Akylbek Zhaparov said during his working visit to Japan, Economist.kg reports.
The agreement announced at the signing in Samarkand this year between the three states was less than $5 billion.
During his speech at the Central Asian Investment Forum in Japan, Zhaparov said that construction would begin soon.
“For countries like ours, which do not have access to the sea, it is necessary to develop road and rail infrastructure. We need new rail routes that will connect us with other countries and allow us to integrate our economy into the global supply chain. So, in the near future, the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway will begin, the cost of which is currently estimated at $6 billion,” said the head of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan.
At the same time, it should be noted that when speaking in the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan recently, when asked by deputies about major infrastructure projects, Zhaparov noted the railway corridor and indicated the approximate cost of its construction in the range of $3-5 billion. Thus, in 10 days the cost of the project increased by no less than $1 billion - or at least 20%, writes Economist.kg.
