Kyrgyzstan continues to strengthen dialogue with European partners on sanctions policy. During a visit to Hungary, First Deputy Prime Minister Daniyar Amangeldiev met in Budapest with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Economic Relations and Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó, according to Akchabar.kg.
The talks focused on mechanisms of cooperation under sanctions pressure and the role of Central Asian countries in forming stable trade and economic chains across Eurasia.
Amangeldiev emphasized that maintaining economic resilience is a priority for Kyrgyzstan and expressed the country’s readiness to continue working with EU member states on sanctions-related issues.
Both sides noted with satisfaction the dynamic development of bilateral relations, including the strengthening of political dialogue, the expansion of trade and economic ties, and the growth of investment partnerships.
In recent years, Kyrgyzstan and Hungary have significantly intensified cooperation in political, economic, and humanitarian spheres. In 2018, the countries signed a Strategic Partnership Agreement, and in 2019, Hungary opened its embassy in Bishkek, its first diplomatic mission in Central Asia. Since then, bilateral contacts have regularly advanced at a high level, including through the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.
Hungary is one of Kyrgyzstan’s key European partners, supporting engagement under the “Central Asia – Hungary” format and promoting dialogue between the regions. Particular attention is given to educational and investment cooperation, including the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship program, under which dozens of Kyrgyz students study annually at Hungarian universities.
Hungary also plays a special role within the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), holding observer status since 2018. This platform strengthens dialogue between Budapest and Bishkek, particularly in economic cooperation, transport, investment, and education.
As an active OTS member, Kyrgyzstan supports expanding cooperation with Hungary within the Turkic framework, highlighting the European partner’s importance in joint infrastructure and cultural initiatives.
According to official statements from Kyrgyz authorities, trade between Kyrgyzstan and Hungary has doubled over the past five years.
