The Veterinary Service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan has announced a temporary suspension of the export of large and small cattle, as well as horses, in accordance with an order dated January 31, 2025.

The reason for this decision has not been disclosed, but the day before, a meeting was held in the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan on "issues related to food prices in the country." Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet Bakyt Torobaev, who also serves as the Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan, assured that "currently, the country's food supply is at a sufficient level."

"Despite this, he warned of strict measures against those who unjustifiably inflate food prices. The Ministry of Economy and Commerce, the Antimonopoly Regulation Service, the presidential representatives in the regions, local state administrations, and municipal authorities have been tasked with closely monitoring food prices," the press service of the Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers emphasized.

According to data from the National Statistics Committee of Kyrgyzstan, from January to November of last year, the country exported 217,000 heads of small cattle and 122,500 heads of large cattle, all of which were sold to Uzbekistan.

The last similar ban was introduced in September 2024 amid rising meat prices in Kyrgyzstan.
