The qualifying tournament in wrestling for the 2024 Olympics will be held in Kyrgyzstan for the first time, the United World of Wrestling (UWW) reports.
The competition will be held April 19-21 next year. For the first time in history, Kyrgyzstan will hold a qualifying wrestling tournament for the Olympic Games, which will be held in 2024 in Paris.
Following the UWW bureau meeting, the dates for the four continental Olympic qualifiers and the 2024 World Olympic qualifier have been released. The Pan American Olympic Qualifiers will open the qualifying round next year.
The first continental qualification will take place in Acapulco (Mexico). The tournament will be preceded by the Pan American Championship, which will take place at the same venue.
Then in Cairo (Egypt) the qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games in Africa and Oceania will be held.
Baku (Azerbaijan) will be followed by a qualifying tournament for the European Olympic Games.
Bishkek will witness the qualifying tournament of the Asian Olympic Games, which will be preceded by the Asian Championship in the same place.
The final tournament offering quotas for the Paris Games, known as the World Olympic Qualifier, will take place in Istanbul, Turkey.
Qualifying competitions for the Games begin with the 2023 World Cup in Belgrade (Serbia), which is scheduled for September. It will offer 90 quotas, five in each Olympic weight category.
Each of the four continental qualifiers will offer 36 quotas, for a total of 144. At the World Olympic Qualifier, which will be held in Istanbul, 54 places will be available for the 2024 Olympic Games.
Dates for the four Continental Olympic Qualifiers and the World Olympic Games Qualifier will be announced at a later date.
