Kyrgyzstan woos US business amid EU sanctions threats

Talks between First Deputy Prime Minister Daniyar Amangeldiev and representatives of major American corporations took place in Bishkek, Economist.kg eports.

The meeting took place at a critical time for the country: while Bishkek presents itself as a stable platform for Western capital, Brussels is discussing adding Kyrgyzstan to a "blacklist" of countries facilitating the circumvention of anti-Russian sanctions.

Kyrgyzstan is offering US investors participation in projects that are changing the region's economic geography. The main lot was the Kambar-Ata Hydroelectric Power Plant-1, a megaproject designed to ensure energy independence and export potential for Central Asia.

Amangeldiev cited the following arguments as guarantees of reliability:

S&P Rating: In 2025, the agency affirmed the Kyrgyz Republic's sovereign credit rating at B+ with a stable outlook.
Tax incentives: The state guarantees favorable conditions for long-term investment in industry. Modernization: Active launch of infrastructure facilities as a driver of GDP growth.
Dialogue with American businesses is taking place against the backdrop of alarming news from Europe. As previously reported, the European Union is considering implementing a special anti-circumvention tool. This could lead to a ban on the export of European dual-use equipment and technologies to Kyrgyzstan.

For American companies, this creates a situation of uncertainty: on the one hand, Bishkek is demonstrating openness and reforms, but on the other, the risk of being subject to secondary Western sanctions for re-exporting goods to Russia remains extremely high.
