Kyrgyzstan’s foreign trade turnover totaled $9.85 billion between January and August 2025 — a 10.1% decrease compared to the same period last year, according to the National Statistical Committee, 24.kg reports. The decline affected both exports and imports.
According to the data, exports fell by 23.7% to $1.73 billion, while imports decreased by 5.2% to $8.12 billion. As a result, imports accounted for 82.4% of the country’s total trade volume, highlighting Kyrgyzstan’s continued dependence on foreign goods.
Trade performance in 2025 was influenced by government-imposed restrictions on the export and import of certain goods — ranging from scrap metal to livestock. These measures, aimed at stabilizing the domestic market, contributed to a drop in export volumes.
Trade with the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) also showed a downward trend. Over the first eight months of 2025, Kyrgyzstan’s trade with EAEU countries fell by 3.3% to $3.35 billion. Exports to the bloc dropped sharply by 35.7% to $674.6 million, while imports increased by 10.8% to $2.67 billion.
Russia (65.7% of total trade) and Kazakhstan (32.1%) remain Kyrgyzstan’s main trading partners within the EAEU. Overall, trade with EAEU member states accounted for 34% of Kyrgyzstan’s total trade turnover, 39% of exports, and 32.9% of imports.
