External and mutual trade of Kyrgyzstan for January–September 2025 decreased to $11.27 billion, which is 8.3% less than in the same period of the previous year, Economist.kg reports, citing the press service of the National Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan.
The main factor behind the decline was a sharp drop in exports: shipments of Kyrgyz goods abroad fell by 25.7%. Imports decreased by only 3%, which further deepened the structural imbalance and highlighted the country’s continuing dependence on imported goods.
Trade with the EAEU
Mutual trade with the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union amounted to $3.85 billion over nine months — 5.3% less than a year earlier.
The structure of trade turnover within the Union remains unchanged:
-
Russia — 65.8%,
-
Kazakhstan — 31.8%,
-
Other EAEU countries — less than 3%.
Reasons for the decline
Economists attribute the drop in foreign trade to several factors. Among them is reduced demand in key partner countries, primarily Russia and Kazakhstan.
Exports were also affected by the rise in global prices for raw materials and energy resources, which reduced the competitiveness of Kyrgyz products.
Additional pressure came from regulatory restrictions, including tighter rules on parallel imports to Russia, which narrowed Kyrgyzstan’s export opportunities.
According to experts, the recovery of trade activity will depend on the stabilization of external demand and the easing of administrative barriers.
