The Malaysian national oil company Petronas has invested $11 billion in Turkmenistan’s oil and gas industry since beginning operations in the country in 1996. This was stated by Malaysia's Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Mohd Suhaimi Bin Ahmad Tajuddin, at a diplomatic reception celebrating Malaysia's 67th National Day, reports Turkmenportal.tm.

“Turkmenistan has been an important international partner for Malaysia since the establishment of diplomatic relations 32 years ago. Confident in Turkmenistan’s capabilities and economic potential, Malaysia did not hesitate to make significant investments in the country’s oil and gas sector through its national oil company, Petronas, in 1996.

To date, Petronas has invested $11 billion in Turkmenistan’s oil and gas industry. These investments have contributed not only to the energy sector but also to education and various corporate social responsibility programs, positively impacting the lives of the local population,” the diplomat’s statement was quoted by NCA.

According to the ambassador, Petronas' continuous presence in Turkmenistan, along with the families of its executives, has played a significant role in strengthening bilateral ties.

“Through personal interactions and promotional initiatives, we have seen an increase in the number of Turkmen students pursuing higher education in Malaysian universities and Turkmen tourists exploring Malaysia’s diverse landscapes. I would also like to commend ‘Turkmen Airlines’ for launching a direct flight between Ashgabat and Kuala Lumpur in February this year, further facilitating travel and exchanges,” added Mohd Suhaimi Bin Ahmad Tajuddin.
