The authorities of Uzbekistan have recalculated the cost of the minimum consumer expenditures (MCE), the State Committee of Uzbekistan informed.

The size of MCE was calculated within the framework of the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan dated February 27, "On the statistical program for 2023".

Based on the annual inflation rate for 2022, which amounted to 12.3%, the new cost of minimum consumer expenditures is 568 thousand Uzbek som per person per month, or 19 thousand Uzbek som per day ($1.6).

The calculation of minimum consumer expenditures includes the minimum per capita consumption of food products at 2200 calories, as well as necessary non-food goods and services.

In 2021, the size of MCE was 440 thousand Uzbek som (14.6 thousand Uzbek som per day), and in 2022, MCE was at the level of 498 thousand Uzbek som (16.6 thousand Uzbek som per day).

The State Committee noted that the MCE indicator reflects the poverty line as well as the characteristics of real consumption and the needs of the population. MCE also enhances the effectiveness and targeting of poverty reduction strategies and programs, as well as their continuous monitoring.

Moreover, the sizes of pensions, allowances, and other types of social assistance cannot be lower than the minimum consumer expenditures.
