Mirziyoyev and Berdimuhamedov Sr. held talks in Samarkand

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held talks in Samarkand, where he arrived from Kyrgyzstan after negotiations with the President of Kyrgyzstan in Cholpon-Ata.

The meeting was first held in a narrow format and then with the participation of official delegations from both countries, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan informed.

The sides discussed current issues related to the development of Uzbek-Turkmen relations, emphasizing the dynamic growth of cooperation in political, inter-parliamentary, trade-economic, transport-communication, and cultural-humanitarian spheres.

It was noted that mutual trade turnover reached $1.1 billion in 2024, with the goal of increasing it to $2 billion in the coming years.

Bilateral trade and economic ties are expanding. Trade houses have been opened in the capitals of both countries, and freight volumes are increasing.

A cross-border trade zone "Shavat-Dashoguz" is being established, contributing to the development of mutually beneficial cooperation in energy, transport, agriculture, and water management.

An agreement was reached to hold the third Regional Forum in 2025 in the city of Khiva, along with Turkmenistan Culture Days in Uzbekistan.

The leaders also attended cultural events at the historical and ethnographic park "Eternal City" within the framework of the international tourist center "Silk Road Samarkand."

They exchanged views on regional partnership issues, including preparations for upcoming summits in the "Central Asia Plus" format and the seventh Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Heads of State in Tashkent.

Special attention was given to the upcoming Forum in Ashgabat in December 2025, held as part of the International Year of Peace and Trust, declared by the UN General Assembly at the initiative of Turkmenistan.
