President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan spoke at the opening ceremony of the 3rd International Forum "One Belt, One Road" in Beijing, during its plenary session on the topic of "Joint Construction of the 'Green' Silk Road for the Sake of Harmonious Coexistence of Humans and Nature," Uza.uz reports.
Highlighting the complex environmental situation in the region, which manifests as abnormal weather conditions, droughts, dust storms, land degradation, loss of biodiversity, President of Uzbekistan stated that Central Asia is becoming one of the most vulnerable places to climate change.
In this regard, the following proposals and initiatives have been put forward:
- Establish a special demonstration technology park in the Aral Sea region, involving leading Chinese companies and foreign partners, to promote programs based on the widespread adoption of "green" technologies.
- Hold the Samarkand International Climate Forum in 2024 for exchanging opinions and uniting efforts to achieve the goals of "green" development in Central Asia.
- Develop a "green" development program encompassing measures and projects for the "green" transformation and digitization of economic sectors, creating sustainable infrastructure in the transportation and energy industries, launching "green" industrial capacities, poverty reduction, and the development of "smart" agriculture.
- Establish a "Green Financing" Fund in Uzbekistan for developing a low-carbon economy and "clean" technologies, implementing high environmental standards in the region's countries.
- Create a scientific-information platform for the transfer of "green" knowledge and solutions based on the International Innovation Center of the Aral Sea region.
- Develop a program for training specialists in the field of "green" development and ecology in collaboration with leading foreign universities and educational centers, based at the Central Asian University for the Study of Environment and Climate Change.
- Launch a global program for the development of "green" culture within the "One Belt, One Road" initiative, which includes organizing ethno-ecological festivals, forums, presentations, and other events featuring renowned figures.
In conclusion, Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed confidence that the fruitful results of the forum would be a significant contribution to the common cause of building a "green" future for humanity.
