The number of students from Uzbekistan studying in the United States last year exceeded 1 thousand. This is a new record and an increase of 72.6% compared to the previous academic year, Podrobno.uz reports, citing data from the published Open Doors report for 2023.
A record 1,089 students were enrolled in US universities in the 2022-23 academic year, up from 631 in 2021-22, the report said. The majority, or 57.2%, were undergraduate students, 29.9% had a college degree, 7.9% were pursuing elective practical training, and 5% were enrolled in non-degree programs such as English or short-term training.
Overall, the number of international students in the United States topped 1 million last academic year, up 14% from the previous year and reaching a new high of 1,057,188, according to the report.
Meanwhile, in Russian universities, including their foreign branches, 53 thousand citizens of Uzbekistan studied in the 2022-2023 academic year. Of these, 11.7 thousand students are financed by Russian budgetary allocations. At the same time, more than 10 thousand Uzbek citizens entered education on an equal basis with Russian citizens, and about 1.6 thousand more - through a special quota of the Russian government.
