Negotiations on the Tajik-Kyrgyz border are moving in a positive direction, Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev said.

He made such a statement on the air of Kyrgyz Birinchi Radio, Sputnik reports.

Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan "have been holding closed talks for a very long time. Now the situation is getting better a little. There is mutual understanding both from the Tajik side and from our side that we still need to finish negotiations on the border," Kulubaev said.

According to him, positive dynamics in solving the border problem began at the end of 2022.

"I think this year we will continue this issue at a more active pace," he concluded.

Recall that the description of about 100 km of the border line has recently been completed. Thus, the agreed border line is already about 625 km, or about 63 per cent of its total length.

At the end of December 2022, negotiations between the working groups of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan were held at the Rano service center located in Kyrgyzstan.

The parties then agreed to continue the work of the joint commission in 2023 to reduce tensions at the border.
