At a meeting on geological exploration, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, was informed that the company "Uzbekneftegaz" is working on two fronts – maintaining gas production volumes at existing fields and identifying new reserves, Gazeta.uz reports.
In recent years, the depth of geological studies has increased from 2-3 km to 4-5 km.
As a result, new gas reserves were discovered, allowing an additional extraction of 4.4 billion cubic meters of "blue fuel."
Uzbekistan has engaged an international consulting company, with whose assistance many promising areas have been identified.
In 2024, seismic work is planned to be conducted in Uzbekistan over an area of 3500 square kilometers, and new exploratory wells will be drilled.
Uzbekistan is considering the possibility of transitioning to geological drilling at a depth of 6-7 km using advanced technologies.
It was reported in 2020 that Uzbekistan was conducting geological exploration for new gas deposits. At that time, authorities stated that "Uzbekneftegaz" had discovered new hydrocarbon reserves at the "Urtabulok" field. The exploration is part of the program "Development and Reproduction of Hydrocarbon Raw Material Base."
It is worth noting that the country has been experiencing a decline in natural gas production and an increase in consumption each year.
In this regard, Uzbekistan has decided to purchase additional gas from Russia within the framework of the tripartite gas alliance with Kazakhstan through the "Central Asia-Center" gas pipeline. Also, due to energy deficit, Uzbekistan is ready to sign a contract with Russia for the construction of a nuclear power plant.
