Alikhan Smailov has been appointed Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Kazpravda.kz reports.
“Amanat Party proposed a candidate, we came to a common denominator. I propose Alikhan Smailov for the post of prime minister. You all know him - a very professional, experienced specialist, a very hardworking person.
I think he knows very well the tasks assigned to the government, so I think he can be trusted,” President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said addressing the deputies of the Majilis.
The majority of deputies approved the appointment of Smailov as head of the Government. 82 out of 97 present at the meeting voted "for", "against" - 7, 8 - abstained.
Earlier it was reported that Smailov's candidacy for the post of head of the Government was proposed to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan by Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament Yerlan Koshanov. Later, the head of state discussed this proposal with the leaders of the parliamentary factions.
