The World Wrestling Championship in Belgrade, Serbia, has concluded. The Kazakhstani national team secured the 12th place in the team standings, winning one gold and two bronze medals, the Zakon.kz portal reports.
The historic victory of Rizabek Aitmukhan in freestyle wrestling, along with the bronze medals earned by Azamat Dauletbeckov and Jamila Bakbergenova, and two Olympic licenses (Dauletbeckov and Nursultan Tursynov), is considered a good result, especially when compared to Kazakhstan's performances in previous years. However, when comparing the progress of Kyrgyz wrestling, the results are not as favorable, as stated by the portal.
In Belgrade, the Kyrgyz national team secured three gold, one silver, and one bronze medal, finishing third in the team standings. Aisuluu Tynybekova became a three-time world champion, while Akzhol Makhmudov and Zholaman Sharshenbekov earned their second titles as the world's best wrestlers. What makes the triumph of Kyrgyz wrestlers stand out is that Zholaman and Akzhol achieved these results in Olympic weight categories.
When considering the entire history of performances at world championships, thanks to the incredible leap made in recent years, Kyrgyz wrestlers have surpassed the teams of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in terms of world championship performances. The Kyrgyzstan team has accumulated 8 gold, 5 silver, and 13 bronze medals, while Kazakhstan has earned 6 gold, 19 silver, and 35 bronze medals, and Uzbekistan has secured 6 gold, 11 silver, and 22 bronze medals.
