President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the summit of the contact group of the Non-Aligned Movement in Baku said that in recent years, humanity, in addition to fighting the pandemic, is also facing the disastrous consequences of climate change, natural disasters and man-made disasters. Their scale is growing and poses a serious threat to the security and sustainable development of not only individual states, but entire regions, Gazeta.uz reports with reference to the press service of the President of Uzbekistan.

“Undoubtedly, only by uniting and supporting each other, we will be able to overcome such difficult trials. In this regard, Uzbekistan stands for the further strengthening of our activities on the basis of the Global Platform to achieve the main goals of the Sendai Framework until 2030,” Mirziyoyev said.

Mirziyoyev proposed to create a network of monitoring and scientific research of the Non-Aligned Movement in order to deeply study the causes of such emergencies and effectively prevent their consequences. “We are ready to place this institute in Uzbekistan,” the President of Uzbekistan added.

Geopolitical and ideological contradictions have intensified in the world, under the influence of which new centers of instability are emerging in different regions of the world. "In addition, no global solutions have been found to the conflicts that have persisted for a long time in the Middle East region and Afghanistan," the President of Uzbekistan stressed.

He stressed the growing urgency of expanding cooperation within the organization "in the face of the recently increasing threat of terrorism and extremism in all countries."

“Given this, we call on the Non-Aligned Movement to lead our common efforts to strengthen the international legal framework for combating all manifestations of terrorism. I am firmly convinced that this will further intensify multilateral cooperation of all member states of the movement within the framework of the UN,” the President of Uzbekistan said.

“Undoubtedly, in the systemic coordination and effective solution of these problems at the international level, the main role should belong to the UN and its specialized structures. In the process of reforming the UN, members of the Non-Aligned Movement should find a permanent seat in the Security Council,” said the President of Uzbekistan.

The movement unites 120 participating states, which have proclaimed non-participation in military-political blocs and organizations as the basis of their foreign policy.
