At the UN Climate Change Conference COP29 in Baku, the Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan, Mirbek Duisheev, discussed three key areas of his department's work, reports Kaktus Media:

- Development and significant improvement of low-productive pastures. Over two decades, the area of relatively clean pastures has decreased from 3.5 million hectares to 2.7 million hectares. Currently, 140,000 hectares of pastures are experiencing degradation, and 615,000 hectares are classified as low-productive (all pastures occupy 9 million hectares, which accounts for 80% of the total agricultural land). To improve the condition of pastures, 372,000 hectares have been temporarily conserved, 100,000 kg of seeds have been sown, and over 30 artificial glaciers have been created for their irrigation.

- Implementation of drip and sprinkler irrigation systems to reduce water loss. Such systems are successfully operating on an area of 14,500 hectares among 1,810 farmers. Annually, the area covered by new systems ranges from 1,000 to 2,500 hectares.

- Increase in land allocated for organic farming. The development of this sector will open new markets and offer consumers high-quality products. The area used for organic production is 67,000 hectares or 5% of the total sown area.

He also noted that the republic hosted the regional "Organic Expo-2024" forum for the first time. "These and other initiatives aim to create a sustainable and climate-adapted agricultural system capable of efficiently using natural resources and ensuring the country's food security," concluded Deputy Minister Duisheev.
