Parliaments of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan Expand Cooperation

As part of the parliamentary delegation's participation in the First Central Asia-European Union Interparliamentary Forum, Deputy Speaker of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli (Parliament) of the Republic of Tajikistan Mavsuma Muini met with First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sodiq Safoyev, the Khovar state news agency reports.

The meeting took place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. The parties held an open and frank exchange of views on key issues of bilateral cooperation and interparliamentary ties between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. It was emphasized that further cooperation between the countries will continue in the areas of sharing experiences in improving legislation, parliamentarism, economic and social development, and improving living standards in the regions.

It was noted that the event has become an important international platform for strengthening interparliamentary dialogue, expanding political trust, and establishing sustainable cooperation mechanisms between the countries of Central Asia and the European Union. The Republic of Tajikistan continues to actively support the further institutional development of this form of interaction.

Mawsuma Muini noted that thanks to regular meetings between the heads of state – President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev – as well as friendly relations within international and regional forums, a reliable foundation has been created for strengthening all areas of cooperation, and relations between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan have reached a qualitatively new level.

Today, the legal framework between our countries includes more than 250 documents covering broad cooperation in the political, economic, humanitarian, and cultural spheres. It was noted that the Treaty on Strategic Partnership and the Treaty on Allied Relations are key documents that give the entire system of bilateral relations between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan a systemic and long-term character.
