Passenger traffic in the Almaty metro after the opening of the stations "B. Momyshuly" and "Saryarka" increased by 78%, said the head of the city's economic department Dastan Umirbayev during the VI session of the maslikhat (parliament of Kazakhstan) of the VIII convocation.
“Metro stations ”B. Momyshuly" and "Saryarka" are open. As a result, passenger traffic in the metro increased by 78%,” Umirbayev said.
In turn, the head of the finance department, Kanat Sukhambekov, said that in general, last year, the metro transported 17.1 million people, railway transport and buses - 383 million people.
In August last year, the Almaty metro reported that after the opening of two new stations, passenger traffic increased by an average of 40%. Thus, over the year, passenger traffic increased by another 38%.
Almaty is the only city in Kazakhstan with a functioning metro. The metro was launched at the end of 2011. The population of Almaty is over 2 million people.
In the countries of Central Asia, the first metro was opened in Tashkent in 1977. The population of Tashkent exceeds 3 million people.
