Pharmaceutical and medical device production in Tajikistan continues to expand. According to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, over 85 million units were produced in the first nine months of this year—an increase of 4.5 million units compared to the same period last year, reported Khovar.tj.

Currently, 69 domestic enterprises operate in Tajikistan, producing 622 types of medicines and medical products across 356 product lines. Strengthening local production aims to reduce dependence on imports and ensure the domestic market is supplied with essential medicines.

In a regional context, Tajikistan lags behind Kazakhstan, which hosts over 200 pharmaceutical companies producing more than 1,500 product lines, covering about 45% of domestic demand. Uzbekistan is also rapidly expanding its pharmaceutical industry, with over 200 producers manufacturing more than 1.5 billion packaging units annually. In Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan, production remains limited, with most companies focusing on packaging imported drugs or producing a small range of products.

Experts highlight Tajikistan’s potential for growth due to its available workforce, expanding domestic market, and investor interest. To accelerate development, modernization of production facilities, compliance with international GMP standards, and strengthening of scientific and technical capacity are needed.
