Population of Uzbekistan has up to $10 bln

Uzbekistanis have up to $10 billion in their hands, Vyacheslav Pak, deputy director of the National Agency for Perspective Projects, said, Kursiv.uz reports.

“According to various estimates, the population currently has from $5 to $10 billion in their hands,” Vyacheslav Pak said at the Kursiva conference in Tashkent.

He added that people keep this money in cash, including foreign ones.

The population is in no hurry to invest funds, including alternative ways.

A conference dedicated to the capital market in Uzbekistan has started in Tashkent. The first panel discussion was devoted to the development of the stock market and the country's readiness for privatization through initial public offering (IPO) of enterprises.

The total population of Uzbekistan is about 36 mln people. More than 4 mln of them moved out as labor migrants, mostly to Russia.

Every year, labor migrants transfer more than $5 billion to Uzbekistan.
