On the background of ongoing bilateral negotiations on the disputed border areas between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin noted the positive dynamics in the disputed situation around the border and expressed satisfaction with its development, TASS reports.

Moscow is in favor of a speedy settlement of the dispute, the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation said at the III Central Asian Conference of the Valdai International Discussion Club.

"Moscow has consistently advocated an early and final settlement of the border dispute between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, and we note with satisfaction the positive dynamics of this process," he said.

The diplomat added that the Russian Federation and the CSTO are "non-alternative security guarantors" of the Central Asian region, the key elements of which are the Russian military bases in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

“We continue close cooperation with the countries of the region on countering the drug and terrorist threat emanating from the territory of Afghanistan. For the Central Asian countries, this is especially valuable against the backdrop of religious radicalism tendencies that are manifesting in the region,” Galuzin noted.
