Potential of watercourses in Kyrgyzstan utilized only at 13%

"The importance of interaction between the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf and Central Asia was emphasized by the Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan, Taalaibek Ibraev, speaking at the investment forum 'Cooperation Council for the Arab States + Central Asia' in Riyadh, Akchabar reports.

He also noted the significant energy potential of Kyrgyzstan. According to him, the technical potential of all watercourses in Kyrgyzstan amounts to 142.5 billion kilowatt-hours, of which only 13% is currently utilized.

The Minister assured that the government of Kyrgyzstan is ready to provide guarantees, fiscal incentives, and preferences to every investor in Kyrgyzstan, as well as to simplify tax payments for joint investment projects.

He particularly emphasized that Kyrgyzstan has significant reserves of energy resources and potential for renewable energy sources, including hydroelectric power, solar energy, wind energy, and geothermal energy.

Taalaibek Ibraev invited forum participants to the upcoming energy investment forum, which will take place on June 10-11 in Vienna. Detailed information about the Kambar-Ata-1 hydroelectric power plant project, as well as other promising large-scale energy projects of Kyrgyzstan, will be presented at this event.

During the visit to Saudi Arabia, the Minister of Energy met with Dias Kamaliev, Manager for Development and Investments, and Abdallah Al Marzouki, Analyst for Development and Investments at Masdar. During the meeting, Ibraev presented the Kambar-Ata-1 hydroelectric power plant project and discussed the construction of a 200 MW solar power station in the Issyk-Kul region. Issues related to guaranteeing the purchase of electricity and preparing a preliminary technical and economic justification were discussed.
