During an official visit to Tokyo on December 19, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov held a meeting with Emperor of Japan Naruhito. The talks focused on the further development of Kyrgyz-Japanese relations, covering humanitarian, economic, and environmental cooperation, the press service of the President of Kyrgyzstan reported.

During the discussion, the president highlighted the significance of the World Expo 2025 in Osaka as a platform for international dialogue and the exchange of innovations. He noted that Kyrgyzstan’s National Pavilion was awarded a gold prize in the category “Empowering Lives,” which, he said, reflects growing international interest in the country and its potential.

Sadyr Japarov also emphasized Japan’s contribution to Kyrgyzstan’s socio-economic development, particularly through the introduction of advanced technologies and educational initiatives. Special attention was given to Japan’s scholarship program, which helps train a new generation of civil servants. Currently, according to the president, around 700 students in Kyrgyz universities are studying the Japanese language and culture.

Environmental issues and sustainable development featured prominently in the talks. The president praised Emperor Naruhito’s scientific work in the field of water resources and proposed expanding cooperation on the sustainable development of mountainous regions. Concluding the meeting, Sadyr Japarov invited the Emperor of Japan to take part in the Second Global Mountain Summit “Bishkek+25,” scheduled for 2027, and to visit Kyrgyzstan on an official visit.
