President of Turkmenistan Discusses Expanding Economic Cooperation with Japanese Companies

During his official visit to Japan, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedow met with leaders of major Japanese companies in Tokyo on the sidelines of the first Central Asia–Japan Dialogue Summit, reports Turkmenportal.com.

The meeting took place at the Palace Hotel Tokyo, with representatives of the Turkmen-Japanese Economic Committee and executives from Mitsubishi, Sumitomo, Komatsu, Toyo Engineering, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Tokyo Boeki Eurasia, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Tohkemy, and ITOCHU in attendance.

President Berdimuhamedow expressed gratitude to the Japanese business community for initiating the meeting, highlighting its importance for strengthening economic ties. He emphasized that Turkmenistan continues to develop existing cooperation with Japanese companies while aiming to implement new and larger-scale projects.

Special attention was paid to Japan’s advanced technological development, innovative industrial approach, and environmental responsibility. Turkmenistan, in turn, plans a comprehensive transformation of its economy, focusing on innovation, accelerated industrialization, green transition, energy sector diversification, and the development of national and international transport and logistics networks.

The president also praised the contributions of Japanese companies already operating successfully in Turkmenistan and encouraged them to implement new investment projects in priority areas. Proposed areas of cooperation include water supply, water purification, waste management, green and hydrogen energy, and the transition to a circular economy.

At the conclusion of the meeting, representatives of Japanese businesses expressed confidence that President Berdimuhamedow’s visit would become an important step in implementing the agreements reached and confirmed their readiness to continue strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
