After the negotiations, Presidents Emomali Rahmon and Sadyr Japarov made statements to the media, Avesta.tj reports.

The heads of state highly praised the results of the official talks, including the announcement that air travel between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan will resume on March 14, 2025. The Tajik airline Somon Air will operate its first flight on the Dushanbe-Bishkek-Dushanbe route.

The President of the Republic of Tajikistan, in his statement, expressed gratitude to the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Nurgozhoyevich, for the invitation, traditional hospitality, and warm reception. Emomali Rahmon noted that the negotiations were conducted in a constructive atmosphere, in the spirit of mutual understanding and good neighborliness.

“We thoroughly discussed the full range of Tajik-Kyrgyz relations and reached several important agreements. First and foremost, this includes the signing of the historic Treaty on the State Border. Other bilateral documents have also been adopted, further strengthening the legal framework of cooperation between the parties. During the talks, we outlined specific priorities for joint work in the near future.

We emphasized the importance of maintaining regular political dialogue at the highest and high levels. Special attention was given to the practical implementation of measures to strengthen the trade and economic component of our partnership. Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan have great potential in this area.

Given this, we highlighted the importance of intensifying the work of the Intergovernmental Commission for the comprehensive review of bilateral cooperation issues. We agreed to transform it into an Intergovernmental Council and elevate the level of co-chairs to prime ministers. It was decided that its first meeting will be held in the near future.

Relevant ministries and agencies were instructed to take necessary measures to expand trade volumes and develop new approaches to increasing the range of mutually supplied goods. An agreement was reached to increase mutual trade volume to $500 million. During the talks, we discussed prospects for the development of industrial cooperation as a key factor in further expanding economic ties between our countries.

We proposed continuing the practice of establishing joint ventures in promising industrial sectors. It is worth noting that more than forty (40) joint Tajik-Kyrgyz enterprises currently operate in the Republic of Tajikistan. We acknowledged the significant potential for cooperation in the agro-industrial sector, as well as at the regional level.

We agreed to expand cooperation between the two countries in the field of hydropower. The implementation of regional projects, particularly CASA-1000, is of great importance in this regard. We also decided to establish a joint water management commission. The development of cooperation in transport and communications was also a key topic of discussion.

We emphasized the importance of mutually beneficial use of each other's transit and transport capabilities to ensure the sustainable development of our economies and the region as a whole. Relevant agencies have been instructed to take practical measures to resume air travel and bus routes between our countries, including connections between border regions.

During the negotiations, we also focused on cultural and humanitarian ties. We expressed support for the development of cooperation in the fields of science and education, culture, tourism, youth policy, and sports. Security challenges and threats were also discussed.

We addressed issues of joint efforts against terrorism and extremism, manifestations of radicalism, organized transnational crime—including cybercrime and drug trafficking. We agreed to strengthen coordination between security services and other relevant agencies in this area. Our countries will continue the practice of supporting each other’s initiatives within international and regional organizations.

Overall, the results of today’s negotiations allow us to look optimistically at the development of relations between our countries. With today’s signing of the Tajik-Kyrgyz Border Treaty, the esteemed Sadyr Nurgozhoyevich and I have agreed to soon conclude a treaty between the Republic of Tajikistan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Republic of Uzbekistan regarding the junction point of our state borders.

We plan to sign this document as part of the upcoming celebration of International Nowruz Day in the ancient city of Khujand. In order to continue our constructive interstate dialogue, I have extended a warm invitation to the esteemed President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sadyr Nurgozhoyevich Japarov, to make a state visit to the Republic of Tajikistan at his convenience,” President Rahmon emphasized.
