On November 12, the presidents of Kazakhstan and Russia held talks in Moscow. Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed his gratitude to Vladimir Putin for the “exceptional hospitality” and emphasized that the visit to Russia was “the main event of the year” for Kazakhstan, according to Kazakh media.
“We prepared thoroughly and conducted consultations in all areas. The scale of cooperation with Russia is truly unique — there is not a single sphere where we do not interact,” Tokayev said.
The President of Kazakhstan stressed that the strategic partnership and allied relations with Russia are “not just a figure of speech, but the essence of our cooperation.” He added that there are no problems in bilateral relations, and trade turnover is expected to rise to $30 billion in the near future.
Special attention was given to joint projects in nuclear energy. Tokayev noted that the two sides are “close to signing agreements” with Rosatom for the construction of a nuclear power plant, calling this project a “breakthrough step” for developing new competencies.
He also highlighted progress in education: leading Russian universities are opening branches in Kazakhstan, and a branch of Kazakh National University has been established at Omsk University. According to Tokayev, educational cooperation strengthens ties between nations and helps young people better understand each other in the new geopolitical reality.
Tokayev invited Putin for a reciprocal state visit to Kazakhstan in 2026.
Vladimir Putin, in turn, emphasized that Kazakhstan and Russia remain “closest allies and friends.” Russia is Kazakhstan’s leading trade and economic partner and ranks first in investments. In 2024, trade turnover exceeded $27 billion, and for the first nine months of 2025, it has already reached $20 billion.
Putin highlighted close cooperation on the international stage and within regional organizations. He noted that the presidents will meet again at the CSTO forum in Bishkek and later at the CIS and EAEU summit in St. Petersburg.
“We are taking our relations to a new intergovernmental level and are committed to further developing cooperation,” the Russian leader concluded.
