An informal meeting between Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev took place at the Kazakh presidential residence in Almaty on March 29, Forbes.kz reports.
President Tokayev thanked President Mirziyoyev for his visit and noted that such informal meetings have become a good tradition.
“This is a great opportunity to exchange views in a businesslike atmosphere on how we are working toward the great goal of strengthening cooperation between our brotherly and friendly nations. We are allies, and the state of our bilateral relations significantly impacts the entire Central Asian region,” Tokayev stated.
He praised Mirziyoyev’s personal contribution to bringing the two nations closer and advancing common goals for the region’s sustainable and secure development.
“You are well-known and highly respected in Kazakhstan. Under your strong and authoritative leadership, Uzbekistan is developing dynamically. We know that last year, Uzbekistan’s economy grew by more than 6%. All sectors of the economy are successfully achieving their targets. This is encouraging because the stronger Uzbekistan’s economy, the better and more effective our trade and economic cooperation. I believe we have a good opportunity to exchange views on a wide range of issues,” Tokayev emphasized.
In response, President Mirziyoyev highlighted the importance of the meeting for strengthening bilateral ties.
“I am very grateful for the warm and friendly welcome here in your hometown of Almaty, as is fitting for our two nations. On behalf of myself and my people, I sincerely thank you. Our relations have undergone a fundamental transformation in recent years. We are allies, and thanks to our personal relationship, many issues have been successfully resolved, and all our agreements are yielding real results. I sincerely congratulate you on Kazakhstan’s achievements. Your economy is growing, and the first quarter ended with a 5.4% GDP growth rate. I came here with a large delegation because, even though this is an informal meeting, each such meeting gives a strong boost to our relations and agreements,” Mirziyoyev stated.
The two leaders held detailed discussions on political, trade and economic, transport and transit, investment, energy, and water cooperation, as well as industrial collaboration and tourism. Special attention was given to cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
They also reviewed regional and international issues.
Earlier, the two presidents visited the Medeu High-Mountain Sports Complex and were briefed on plans for the development of Almaty’s ski cluster.
