Presidents Sadyr Japarov and Emomali Rahmon discussed priority areas and prospects for Kyrgyz-Tajik bilateral and multilateral cooperation on the sidelines of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, held in New York.

The parties paid special attention to the issues of delimitation and demarcation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border, and also exchanged views on other topics.

Earlier, the head of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan, Kamchybek Tashiev, called on the Tajik authorities to abandon territorial claims against Kyrgyzstan.

“If the neighboring country does not give up its territorial claims, then we will also make them. We have enough strength and capabilities for this. We have the opportunity to return our lands that were passed over to Tajikistan tens, or even hundreds of years ago,” he said after the summit in Dushanbe.

Immediately after this, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kyrgyzstan to Tajikistan Erlan Abdyldaev was invited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan. It was noted that during the conversation, the ambassador was brought to the attention of the Tajik side about the statements of a high government official of the Kyrgyz Republic on issues of the Tajik-Kyrgyz border that appeared in the information space on September 15.
