Presidents of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan signed an alliance agreement between two countries

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe, according to the press service of the Uzbek leader.

The presidents of the two countries paid special attention to a wide range of interaction in the cultural and humanitarian sphere. They separately discussed the prospects of relations in the trade and economic sphere.

Following the talks, the leaders of both countries signed a number of important documents:

To develop regional relations between the two countries, 5 agreements on cooperation between the executive authorities of the Hatlon and Sughd regions of the Republic of Tajikistan and the authorities of the Khorezm, Fergana, Syrdarya, Namangan, and Andijan regions of the Republic of Uzbekistan were signed.

The new package of signed bilateral documents, including the historic Treaty of Alliance Relations signed by the heads of states, will significantly strengthen the legal basis of cooperation.

As noted by the President of Uzbekistan, it is necessary to work on mechanisms for border trade and trade infrastructure to increase the volume of trade turnover to $2 billion.

The participants discussed agreements on joint projects in energy, electrical engineering, metallurgy, mining, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and agro-industry. The issue of water use was also raised.

It can be confidently stated that the newly signed documents will significantly strengthen the legal framework of various directions of multilateral cooperation between the two countries.

President Mirziyoyev is on an official visit to Tajikistan on April 18-19, 2024.
