The working groups of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have begun negotiations on the demarcation of the state border, said Deputy Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Bakhromjon Aloev.

On February 7, a round table was opened in Tashkent on the prospects for strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. The event was organized by the International Institute of Central Asia. It was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.

The first meeting of the working groups on border demarcation has already been held this year, the second parties are going to hold in the very near future, Aloev said at the round table. He also added that a schedule of meetings of the Working Groups for 2023 has been drawn up.

The process of delimitation of the border between the two countries was completed at the end of January 2023 and the parties exchanged instruments of ratification.

The common border between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan is 930 km, most of which runs through the densely populated Ferghana Valley.

Border delimitation means determining the direction of the state border between neighboring states through negotiations, and demarcation is the designation of the border line on the ground with special border signs.
