Qatar supported opening of Regional Anti-Corruption Center in Uzbekistan

A meeting took place in Tashkent between the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Darakchi reports.

The Emir of Qatar expressed gratitude to Shavkat Mirziyoyev for the high level of organization of the ceremony in Tashkent for the awarding of the International Anti-Corruption Award and for the warm hospitality extended.

Discussions revolved around the further strengthening of political dialogue, expanding trade, economic, investment, and cultural-humanitarian cooperation between the two countries.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the ongoing intensive contacts and exchanges at all levels. Diplomatic missions of both countries were opened in Tashkent and Doha this year. Volumes of mutual trade are increasing, and significant projects involving leading Qatari companies are being implemented.

Special attention was given to promoting new joint investment projects, particularly in the fields of green energy, industry, agriculture, infrastructure development, banking and finance, education, healthcare, and tourism.

Ways to further expand cooperation in the fields of transport and logistics were discussed. In particular, the Qatari side expressed full support for the project to build the Trans-Afghan Railway.

The importance of organizing the first meetings of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission, the Business Council, and a business forum in February 2024 in Doha was emphasized.

The parties also discussed issues related to conducting cultural and humanitarian events in the coming year.

In order to ensure the timely implementation of agreements, the leaders of Uzbekistan and Qatar advocated for the creation of a Coordination Council at the level of the heads of foreign affairs departments of both countries.

Support was expressed for President Mirziyoyev's initiative to establish, under the auspices of the UN, a Regional Center in Uzbekistan to combat corruption.

An exchange of opinions also took place on current issues on the international and regional agenda.
