The President of Tajikistan, who has implemented a series of measures in recent years aimed at restricting freedom of religion and belief, expressed concern about "hatred towards Muslims" in other parts of the world, reports the Tajik bureau of Radio "Liberty" rus.ozodi.org.
Speaking on September 1 at a ceremony marking the start of the school year in one of Dushanbe's schools, Rahmon specifically stated that "in the Gaza Strip of Palestine alone, more than 45,000 people have been killed in less than a year, over 17,000 of them children."
"The rise of Islamophobia and hatred towards Muslims, attempts to drive a wedge between religions and denominations have become another risk factor causing serious concern for human society," said Rahmon.
The current war in the Gaza Strip began with an attack by Hamas on Israel on October 7, during which hostages were taken. In response, Israeli military operations in the Strip have resulted in tens of thousands of casualties, according to Palestinian sources. In Israel, more than a thousand people have died.
Rahmon previously stated that Tajikistan supports the creation of the State of Palestine within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, condemns strikes on civilian targets in the Gaza Strip, and calls on the conflicting parties to come to the negotiating table.
