President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in New York exchanged views on many political, economic, social and security issues of the world community, including geopolitical tensions, armed clashes, threats of terrorism and extremism, economic and financial crises, and climate change. The meeting took place as part of the general debates of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the press service of the President of Tajikistan reports.
Tajikistan is making efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, accelerating actions on the 2030 agenda and in this direction has adopted the National Development Strategy for the period until 2030 and implemented several other government programs, President Rahmon emphasized at the meeting.
He expressed gratitude to the UN for its continued support of Tajikistan’s global initiatives.
Particular attention was paid to issues of cooperation in the field of water, climate change and its consequences for water resources, disaster prevention, development of green energy production capacities, as well as the adoption of the UN General Assembly resolution on Tajikistan’s fifth initiative on glacier conservation.
Regarding the situation in neighboring Afghanistan, it was emphasized that Tajikistan presents all its logistics capabilities, including 6 bridges on the border with this country, to provide humanitarian assistance to its people. It was noted that border markets have begun to function again. Electricity, food and construction materials are exported to the neighboring country.
President Rahmon will also take part in a meeting in the C5+1 format with US President Joe Biden.
