A record number of Tajiks - 173,634 people - received Russian citizenship in 2022, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs said, Asiaplustj.info reports.
In previous year 103,681 residents of Tajikistan received Russian citizenship.
On average, 476 Tajik citizens became citizens of Russia every day. According to this indicator, the citizens of Tajikistan are in the lead among the citizens of the countries of Central Asia.
In general, in 2022, 691 thousand 45 foreigners received Russian citizenship. In the top five countries whose residents received Russian citizenship, Tajikistan is in second place.
In the first place are the citizens of Ukraine - 296 thousand 901 people.
The third place is occupied by Armenia - 45 thousand 86 people, followed by Kazakhstan - 42 thousand 10 people, and Uzbekistan - 27 thousand 220 people.
Also, according to data of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, 121 thousand 122 citizens of Tajikistan have a residence permit in Russia. This means that they are one step away from obtaining Russian citizenship and, probably, in 2023 they will also become Russian subjects.
Another 47,987 Tajiks have a temporary residence permit, which is the first step towards obtaining Russian citizenship.
