Approximately 17 billion cubic meters of water have been directed to the Caspian Sea via the Ural River, reports Orient.tm.

"Since the beginning of the year, 16.7 billion cubic meters of water have flowed into the Caspian Sea through the Ural River," stated Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation.

According to the ministry, the river's average annual flow is 9.46 cubic kilometers. "This year, however, the water volume exceeded the long-term average. It should be noted that the river flow depends on the volume of water released from the Iriklinsky Reservoir in Russia," the report explains.

Since the beginning of the year, representatives from the ministry have held 28 meetings with their counterparts from Russia, China, and Central Asian countries regarding transboundary rivers.
