The President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, and the Chairman of the Majlisi Milli (National Assembly) of the Majlisi Oli of Tajikistan, as well as the Mayor of Dushanbe, Rustam Emomali, inaugurated the new building of the Regional Center for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Safety of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, Avesta.tj reports.

The center was established with the direct support of President Emomali Rahmon, with 47 million somoni allocated from the state budget and funds from international development partners. Construction began in 2021 and was completed in 2024.

The new facility has four floors and is built on 3,500 square meters with a modern architectural design in Dushanbe. During the presentation, the President and attendees were informed that the center is equipped with 16 innovative research laboratories specializing in chemistry, biology, and unique labs in immunology, virology, biosafety, and nuclear forensics. These laboratories will be used to study and diagnose chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear materials.

The laboratories are fitted with new, modern equipment and technologies, meeting international standards for research, diagnostics, and analysis. The opening of these labs aligns with the “Decade for the Study and Development of Natural, Exact, and Mathematical Sciences in Science and Education” program and lays the foundation for timely fundamental research in domestic science.

The launch of these labs represents a significant step toward strengthening both security and scientific capacity, not only in Tajikistan but across Central Asia. To promote international collaboration and meet global research standards, the center has signed cooperation agreements with the Institutes of Nuclear Physics in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.

The facility will also offer its laboratory services to countries in the region, providing access to high-quality analysis and research to address security-related challenges.

This modern center will serve as a platform for knowledge exchange, hosting scientific conferences and seminars, and fostering a scientific community focused on physical security and preventing the spread of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear materials.
