Elections for subsidiary bodies of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)—the second main body of the United Nations after the Security Council - were held in New York.

As a result of the elections, representatives of Kyrgyzstan joined three structures: the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) for the period 2026–2029, the Executive Board of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) for the period 2026–2028, and the Intergovernmental Working Group of Experts on International Standards of Accounting and Reporting (ISAR) for the period 2025–2027, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The election results represent an important step in strengthening Kyrgyzstan’s position on the international stage. They reflect the global community's recognition of the country’s contribution to addressing key sustainable development issues.

Membership in the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) will enable Kyrgyzstan to play a more active role in shaping international drug policy, including efforts to combat illicit drug trafficking and strengthen regional cooperation in this field.

Participation in the UNICEF Executive Board will allow Kyrgyzstan to influence the strategic priorities and programs of the Fund aimed at protecting children’s rights and well-being, including access to education, healthcare, and social protection—critical for achieving national child development goals.

Working within ISAR will create new opportunities for sharing best practices in accounting, reporting, and corporate transparency. It will also help strengthen Kyrgyzstan’s capacity in line with international standards, which is essential for attracting investments and improving governance efficiency in both the public and private sectors.
